dec01 "to r.s." best of the 2010 - playlist of mike shiflet
"Wanke is a new name to me and his work (both this and his 2006 release Caves) came out nowhere and floored me. His guitar drones are so purely tonal they could easily be mistaken for sine waves and when he incorporates the acoustic or piano, his dense layers take on even more life. The closest comparison I can come up with is an extremely stripped down, exceptionally raw Oren Ambarchi. I can’t get enough of this."

press release
"to r.s." is the forthcoming release by Riccardo Dillon Wanke, who uses electric and acoustic guitars, acoustic piano, objects and natural sounds. The 53 minutes of this unique piece divided in four parts combine static compositions, drones and looped music. Structurally viewed as a classical composition, the music take shape with flat harmonic profiles and acoustic events that are layered and coupled together in elliptical and hypnotic loops and echoes. The piece is dedicated to and inspired by Robert Schumann's music.

press release
"11h15: Local Weather Forecast" is the title of the first album of amuleto, a duo project with francesco dillon on the (sometimes prepared) cello and objects and riccardo wanke on electric guitar, bass and electronics. The 61 minutes of these six pieces combine improvisation, compositions, drones and field recordings.
amuleto would join all the sound experiences collected all over the world from the musicians with their artistic backgrounds in a sort imaginary soundtrack and a 'musical diary' of chronicles, memories and sounds. "11h15: local weather forecast" is a movement around the musical lines of the two artists from contemporary composition to experimental impro, from electronic to concrete sounds.

(www.sedimental.com) "Riccardo Dillon Wanke's Caves was composed and recorded in 2006 in Alfama (historical district of Lisbon, Portugal) using acoustic and electric guitars, saxophones and natural sound elements starting from pure radical improvisation evolving into the investigation of drones and static and looped music related to minimalism. At the center of these works are the binaural beats in musical composition, the results lying between classical composition, minimalistic improvisation and a avant-folk sensitivity. The five tracks of Caves explore this in various ways. Its music plays with the relation between different geometries: expanded drones and concrete sounds, acoustic melodies and looped music. The project is music with a sort of irrational tension within a composed piece, built as a musical space made with few elements. On the surface, its aura seems immediately knowable and known yet Wanke has delivered a much more complex, nearly radical gesture. [...]"
